Junior Freediving Programs

At Just Get Wet Foundation, we believe the ocean should be enjoyed by everyone.

Every dive is our way of giving back to the next generation of ocean lovers and providing access to those who may not otherwise have it. We partner with local middle schools and community members to run after-school freediving clubs, collectively called: Aquatic Adventure Club.

Our mission is to help kids gain:

Confidence in The Water

Through freediving and breath-hold and equilization practice

Ocean Knowledge

Learning about our unique local marine life, ecosystems, and habitats

Underwater Skills

Learning safe diving techniques, conditions assessment, buddying, and rescues

Respect & Stewardship

For the ocean, environment, and each other

Teamwork & Community

By diving, exploring, and problem-solving together

How it Runs

Dry Sessions

  • Our dry classroom sessions give students the chance to learn, connect, and build confidence before getting in the water. Through hands-on activities, discussions, and short lessons, we cover ocean safety, basic freediving concepts, marine life awareness, and environmental stewardship. These sessions help students understand why we do what we do in the water, setting them up to for success before hitting the water.

Pool Sessions

  • Our pool sessions focus on building comfort, confidence, and skills in the water in a safe and controlled environment. Students practice breath control, swimming technique, underwater movement, and buddy awareness through fun, guided activities and games. With in-water instructor supervision, these sessions emphasize safety, teamwork, and personal progress while helping students develop strong aquatic foundations that translate to open-water preparedness.

Open-Water Sessions

  • Our open-water ocean sessions give students the opportunity to apply their skills in a local environments under close instructor supervision. Participants practice wave, tidal, and current awareness, entry and exit techniques, snorkeling and freediving fundamentals, and buddy communication while exploring nearshore marine life. These sessions emphasize safety, adaptability, and confidence in changing conditions, helping students develop respect for the ocean while building practical, real-world aquatic skills.

Ryan McDuffie, HTH Resource Teacher & AAC Co-Founder

“Before our school participated in this program, many of these students saw the idea of being an “ocean person” as something out of reach, something not for them. Now, when I see them, they light up with pride as they share stories of their latest ocean adventures or how they’ve joined the Junior Lifeguards, the surf team, or their school’s marine biology club.”
